GRANT ID#: ISSEP-2024-06

GRANT TITLE: Achieved and symbolic immortality: Longitudinal paths from symbolic immortality to climate policy support and meaning in life

GRANTEE: University of Sussex

PRIMARY INVESTIGATOR: Vlad Costin

GRANT AMOUNT: USD $13,495.00

DURATION OF GRANT PROJECT: December 01, 2024 – Dec 31, 2025

Description of the Project

Executive summary:

The project will attempt to distinguish between desired and achieved symbolic immortality. A scale of desired and achieved symbolic immortality will be developed and validated (split-half for exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, respectively) among 800 participants, who will be longitudinally assessed at three time points each one month apart. Longitudinal analyses will use cross-lagged panel modelling, and it is expected that desired symbolic immortality will be more strongly associated with policies intended to leave a positive impact on others’ future, whereas achieved symbolic immortality will be more strongly associated with existential well-being (e.g., the significance aspect of meaning in life).

Itemized budget:

The total recruitment costs for each of the three time points were obtained from Prolific quotes and are detailed below:

·        Time 1, 800 participants, 25 mins: £4,902.44 ($6843.32)

·        Time 2, 800 participants, 10 mins: £2,382.44 ($3325.65)

·        Time 3, 800 participants, 10 mins: £2,382.44 ($3325.65)

The total amount approved is USD $13,495.00.
